Britpop revivalists Kaiser Chiefs are breaking new ground today with the release of their fourth studio album, The Future is Medieval. Of course, “release” is a loose term here. Instead of going the conventional in-store route (that’s so last decade), the band is instead releasing their album via an interactive digital platform that allows fans to select their 10 favorite tracks from 20 possible options and build their own album. That’s right—you get to play music producer for a day.

According to the band, custom-making your own album only takes a mere four steps: head over to the Kaiser Chiefs website listen to snippets from the 20 all-new and available tracks; select your top 10 in any order you desire; create your own Bespoke album art; and lastly, download your personalized The Future is Medieval album.

Wait, it get’s better (or weirder?): Kaiser Chiefs are also letting consumers have their hand at selling their personalized Medieval albums. After purchasing your album, you have provided with your very own webpage to promote your record. For every album of yours purchased, you make a profit of £1 (converted to U.S. dollars) that will be dispensed into a PayPal account. And we thought the closest and coolest we would get to personalized consumerism was Build-a-Bear. So much for a medieval future.

Earlier this week, the Kaiser Chiefs (man, they’ve been busy) released a video for single “Little Shocks,” which is also available as an MP3. Check out the video and stream the MP3 below.
