Chloë Black Soars Through Pain with “Strange Little Bird”
The First Track from Her Forthcoming EP
Jul 26, 2024 Photography by Press Shot
Chloë Black has unveiled the title track from her forthcoming raw and cathartic EP, “Strange Little Bird,” born from her personal battle with severe PTSD and agoraphobia. The project is a testament to resilience, transforming deep pain into a powerful and moving body of work. It’s also the first track she has co-produced.
Black has this to say about the song:
“A little wild one-eyed bird, like in the artwork photo, was my adorable best friend for two years. I fed him (and all the other birds and squirrels) and he introduced me to his children and grandchildren. He would protect me like a guard dog from giant hawks even though he was tiny and a hawk is a danger to him, not me. It was bizarre and beautiful to be chosen by a wild animal in that way and to be chosen weeks before I fed him anything at all. So I wanted to pay tribute to him. I presume that he was killed in 2022 because I saw him multiple times a day every single day for two years and then he was gone and all the other birds left too. It sounds stupid, but that little angel probably helped save my life.”
With unflinching honesty, Black delves into the complexities of narcissistic abuse and the arduous journey to healing throughout the EP. Lush string arrangements intertwine with her evocative vocals, conjuring the darkness that often lies beneath the veneer of Hollywood glamour, as she crafts a soundscape that mirrors the turbulent emotions in her lyrics.
“Strange Little Bird” is an intimate diary of survival, and the EP will resonate deeply with listeners, offering solace and solidarity to those facing similar struggles in the face of abuse.
“Strange Little Bird” is out now. Two more singles will follow on August 23rd and September 20th, with the full EP to be released on October 31st.
