Cork band Cliffords have shared their latest single, “My Favourite Monster”, taken from their upcoming EP, Salt of the Lee, due 30th May via Soil To The Sun.

The new track follows recent releases “Dungarvan Bay” and “Bittersweet”, and cements the band’s growing reputation for crafting emotionally rich, ambitious songs. Salt of the Lee represents a major step forward, as it’s the first time Cliffords have worked with a producer. They recorded the EP with Richie Kennedy at Battery Studios in London.

“My Favourite Monster sits at the heart of the EP, a soaring and cinematic track that captures what makes Cliffords such a compelling new presence. After two packed-out performances at The Great Escape, where queues stretched around the block, anticipation for the EP continues to build.

Cliffords first made their mark last year by self-financing and self-releasing their debut tracks, earning early attention for their raw songwriting and DIY ethic. Since releasing “Bittersweet” earlier this year, the band have taken their music on the road, selling out shows across the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia.

Vocalist Iona Lynch explains the meaning behind the new single:
“My Favourite Monster is a love song to someone you don’t like but feel drawn to. I wrote it about someone in Cork I’d always stop and talk to, even though we didn’t get on. I was reading Frankenstein at the time and thought it would be fun to draw parallels between me and this guy, and Frankenstein and his monster.”

“A lot of the things I didn’t like about him were things I saw in myself. So it became a kind of love letter to someone I’ll never get along with, but in some strange way, we understand each other.”

Fresh from their debut UK headline tour, Cliffords now turn their focus to festival season with appearances lined up at Glastonbury, TRNSMT, Latitude and more.
