Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and The Arcs has officially announced his new solo album, Waiting on a Song, and shared a video for the album’s first single, “Shine on Me.” Waiting on a Song is due out June 2 via Auerbach’s own label, Easy Eye Sound. Check out the partly animated “Shine on Me” video below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art.
The album is the follow-up to Auerbach’s solo debut, 2009’s Keep It Hid. A press release calls Waiting on a Song “a love letter to Nashville” and various Nashville musicians were involved in the album, including John Prine, Duane Eddy, Jerry Douglas, Pat McLaughlin and Bobby Wood, and Gene Chrisman of The Memphis Boys. Auerbach wrote seven songs with Prine.
Auerbach had this to say about the album in a press release: “Living in Nashville has definitely changed the way I think about music and the way that I record it. I didn’t have all of these resources before. I am working with some of the greatest musicians that ever lived.”
The album was recorded at Auerbach’s own Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, of which Auerbach commented: “Sometimes I feel I created my own Field of Dreams. I built the studio because I knew something was going to happen. I built it to accommodate live musicians playing, and then all of a sudden the best musicians in Nashville show up, and it’s happening.”
Waiting on a Song will also be available as an 8 track, accompanied by “a vintage 8 track player signed and customized by Auerbach.”
