Austin’s no-holds-barred quartet Die Spitz return with a blast of unfiltered energy in the shape of their new single “Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry For The Delay),” It’s a fittingly chaotic calling card for their forthcoming debut album Something to Consume, set for release September 12 on Third Man Records.
The single hurtles from tightly wound, roiling verses into a growled chorus that feels both cathartic and knowingly tongue-in-cheek. “‘Pop Punk Anthem’ is a story from the perspective of someone being drove to obsessive insanity through limerence towards a person that does not reciprocate the feelings,” explains vocalist/guitarist Ava Schrobilgen. “But mostly it’s just a fun song to pay homage to the great early 2000’s pop punk legends.”
Something to Consume finds Die Spitz refining their feral live energy in the studio with producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy), resulting in a record that fuses serrated punk edge with grunge’s murkier hues and a politically conscious undercurrent. “Some people aren’t interested in being political activists via music, but it weighs on me heavily and I feel misaligned with my calling if I don’t,” says bassist Chloe De St. Aubin. “The four of us are free spirits with multiple interests, and there’s no limit or power dynamic that can derail us.”
Die Spitz will hit the road this autumn for a headline run and select support dates with Viagra Boys, bringing their combustible blend of fury and fun to stages across the US.
