Elephant 6 collective alum Elf Power have announced the release of their 10th album, the appropriately titled Elf Power, on September 14. The Athens, GA act will self-release on their Orange Twin imprint, and point to New Zealand’s Tall Dwarfs and U.K. act The Soft Boys’ masterpiece Underwater Moonlight as key influences on the record. Elf Power was tracked initially by Now It’s Overhead frontman Andy LeMaster (R.E.M., Bright Eyes) and then taken to Derek Almstead for overdubs and additional tweaking. Helping hands included members of Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System. Oh, and they also borrowed R.E.M.‘s Mellotron. The record’s dedicated to the band’s friend Vic Chesnutt, who committed suicide last December. Elf Power collaborated with Chesnutt on the 2008 album Dark Developments and toured with him extensively thereafter. You can listen to and download the first single “Stranger in the Window” on SoundCloud here.
