Iconic film scorer Ennio Morricone agreed to return to the Western genre he made his name on when Quentin Tarantino asked him to score The Hateful Eight. Now Morricone has shared the first track from the score, “L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock - Versione Integrale,” which you can listen to below. The soundtrack will be released on CD on December 18 via Decca and on vinyl via Third Man. The film will be released in select 70mm equipped movie theaters on Christmas Day before going wide on New Year’s Day.

Some of Morricone’s famous scores include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Thing, Days of Heaven, Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables, Bugsy, and In the Line of Fire, among many others.

The Hateful Eight is set after the Civil War in snowy Wyoming and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Masden, and Bruce Dern. Russell is a bounty hunter escorting a prisoner (Leigh) bound for a hanging. He and the other characters get trapped in a blizzard and tension ensues as they all vie for the reward on Leigh’s head. The trailer is also below.
