ESYA, the solo project from Savages bassist Ayşe Hassan, has unveiled new single “Heaven” as she gears up to release her debut album Chasing Desire on 10th April via AOK Records.

Following three exploratory EPs, Chasing Desire sees Hassan forging a bold new musical identity, blending her signature bass lines with synths, electronics, and programmed beats. The album delves into human desire, personal growth, and the paradoxes of modern life, all filtered through Hassan’s distinctive sonic lens.

“‘Heaven’ is about seeking comfort in your moment of need, but also a homage to music venues, whose walls, if they could talk, hold a lifetime of moments,” Hassan explains. The track combines propulsive, dancefloor-ready energy with introspective lyrics rooted in anxiety and retreat, showcasing the duality present across the forthcoming record.

For Chasing Desire, Hassan embraces a DIY approach, reminiscent of her early music-scene roots, experimenting with new equipment and singing for the first time on record. The album captures a period of personal turbulence and reflection, producing immersive soundscapes that are both intimate and expansive.

In advance of the release, ESYA will host a series of Chasing Desire exhibitions across the UK. Visitors will experience the album on private listening stations, explore the instruments and tools Hassan used, and contribute to a collaborative “Desire Transmission”, recordings of their own desires that will form part of a future ESYA project.

Exhibition dates include Glasgow (7th–9th March at Salt Space), London (9th–12th April at Earth Space), and Bristol (TBC).
