Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) has shared a six-and-a-half minute new song, “Pure Comedy,” which comments on our current society, politics, and religion. It is accompanied by a video. Matthew Daniel Siskin directed the video, which mixes original artwork with news footage of the recent election (and maybe even Friday’s inauguration), including shots of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. The whole thing is a brilliant social commentary and whether or not it was specifically timed for release right after the inauguration, it’s the perfect soundtrack for the last week. The song will presumably be found on his yet-to-be-announced next album, the follow-up to his excellent 2015-released sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear. Watch it below.
I Love You, Honeybear, was Under the Radar’s #1 album of 2015. Consequently, Father John Misty was on the cover of our Best of 2015 print issue and you can read that cover story article here.
