Father John Misty Shares Potentially Jokey New Song - “Prius Commercial Demo 1”

"Hey! Ho!"

Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman) has shared a new song to his Soundcloud that may or may not be a joke. Firstly, it’s entitled “Prius Commercial Demo 1,” indicating that it’s either a demo he submitted to the car company or is a swipe at car commercial music. Secondly, it almost comes off like a parody of a Bruce Springsteen-esque working class folk song (“I wish I had a job on the tinning farm”) or an Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes song (with the “Hey! Ho!” part). This comes after Tillman recently shared lyrics he wrote to go with the instrumental theme song for the Netflix political drama House of Cards.

Father John Misty’s excellent February 2015-released sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear, was Under the Radar’s #1 album of 2015. Consequently, Father John Misty was on the cover of our Best of 2015 print issue and you can read that cover story here. Also read our earlier 2015 print article on Father John Misty and our earlier 2015 bonus Q&A with Tillman (also read our 2012 interview with him).
