The video for “Boob Spelled Backwards is Boob” comes off almost like it’s a British comedy skit put together by Ricky Gervais or Jarvis Cocker (see Pulp’s amazing video for “Bad Cover Version”), but this is a real charity song raising money for a genuine worthwhile cause. The song features contributions from Florence and the Machine‘s Florence Welch, Noel Gallagher, Grace Potter, Michael Franti, Graham Nash, Steve Earl, Hozier, Vance Joy, and members of Bleachers, Spandau Ballet, The Grateful Dead, and more.
Here’s some back-story. “The Boob Project” was spearheaded by Mike “No Name” Nelson, one of the morning DJs on San Francisco’s KFOG radio station. His wife has breast cancer and his eight-year-old song co-wrote a song called “Boob Spelled Backwards is Boob.” Over a period of time the station got various musicians to contribute to the song, likely when they were guests on the station. The song is being used to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (you can donate here). Check out the KFOG website for more info on the project. Below is the video, which features footage of the various musicians performing their parts intercut with photos of women who are battling breast cancer. The song is being released October 1.
