Franz Ferdinand Working on New Album with Sparks
Joint LP Started Last Year

Franz Ferdinand
Still touring behind their latest LP Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, Franz Ferdinand have apparently been secretly collaborating on a joint album with veteran synth duo Sparks. In an interview with NME Sparks keyboardist Ron Mael let the cat out of the bag explaining that the two groups have been working together since April of last year. “You can really hear a mashing together of both bands,” says Mael. “If there was a train crash between Franz Ferdinand and Sparks, this is what the wreckage would sound like.”
The two group had first been introduced to one another eight years ago. “We first met in Los Angeles where Franz were playing,” says Mael. “We liked what each other does, and it became the usual thing bands say to each other of ‘We should do something together.’ We kept in touch over the years, and last [year] we both happened to be playing in San Francisco. We struck up the same conversation, but this time we actually started working on it. It seems to be turning into something strong.”
