Watch: Giant Drag - “Heart Carl” Video
Annie Hardy Battles On
Feb 12, 2014
Giant Drag
Last week, Steve McBean of Pink Mountaintops shared a track called “North Hollywood Microwaves,” from his band’s forthcoming album, Get Back, out April 29 on Jagjaguwar. The song features a foul-mouthed, politically incorrect rap from Annie Hardy of Giant Drag. In this new video for “Heart Carl,” directed by Lance Arnao, we see a different side of Hardy. “Heart Carl” is the last track on Giant Drag’s 2010 Swan Song EP.
In 2013, after years of delay, Hardy unceremoniously released Giant Drag’s sophomore LP, Waking Up Is Hard to Do, on her own label, Full Psycho Records. In the late summer, she embarked on a Giant Drag farewell tour of Europe but then reconsidered its future after returning home to Los Angeles. With drummer Micah Calabrese long departed from the band, the latest incarnation of Giant Drag kicked off 2014 by playing at a Los Angeles strip club. The trials, tribulations, and bad luck surrounding Hardy and Giant Drag through the years had led her to believe that the endeavor was cursed, but last month, her North Hollywood home was robbed while she was out playing a gig with another band. Still, she battles on. Giant Drag is scheduled to play at Harvard & Stone in Los Angeles on February 25.
