Seattle’s Great Grandpa have shared their new single “Kid,” a song inspired by the loss of band members Pat and Carrie Goodwin’s first pregnancy. “Kid” is released on Run For Cover. Listen to “Kid” below and find the single’s cover art.

Created out of a close-knit circle of friends, Great Grandpa is composed of Al Menne, Dylan Hanwright, Cam LeFlam, Pat Goodwin, and Carrie Goodwin. Great Grandpa’s last release was their 2019 Four of Arrows, which follows their 2017 Plastic Cough and 2015 Can Opener. In 2019, the band was called in different directions toward new walks of life. Great Grandpa did not know if they would return.

In a press release, Menne says: “Time passed and I missed my friends.” So in 2023, they started to record again. Though they scrapped most of their work, “Kid” was a standout.

In a press release, Carrie Goodwin reflects on the song’s sentiment: “Things will happen when the timing is right. All good things in time define their meaning.”
