Halloween 2013 Questionnaire: The Thermals

"I always enjoy making myself look beat up or dead. It really disturbs people." - The Thermals' Kathy Foster

Oct 31, 2013 The Thermals

We sent out the same set of Halloween-related questions to a bunch of different musicians. All Halloween week we are posting their responses. Here are some spooky answers from Kathy Foster of The Thermals.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?

I always enjoy making myself look beat up or dead. It really disturbs people. I’m really good at it. I’ve been a dead swimmer and a beat-up cheerleader. The best is doing it and not dressing up as anything. Just looking like myself all beat up. People really don’t like to see that. I’ve had lots of fun Halloweens. I love a dance party. Looking around and there are all these freaks on the dance floor. Once The Thermals played a house show at a Halloween party. That was super fun. Hutch [Harris] was Hunter S. Thompson. Another time, my old band All Girl Summer Fun Band played a party all dressed as dead prom queens from the ‘60s. I love Halloween.

What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?

It was a fun one but I drank too much wine and threw up! Actually that happened two different times. Once I was a bee (I kind of looked like the girl in that Blind Melon video) and the other time I was an ‘80s hip-hop girl, like NYC ‘80s hip-hop style. I can’t think of a worst costume. They’ve all been good!

What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

Fantasy Man from Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy.

What’s your favorite scary movie?

The Shining.
