Heath Ledger-Directed Modest Mouse Video To Debut Tomorrow
"King Rat" Clip Confronts Illegal Whaling

Heath Ledger
According to Pitchfork, a music video that was helmed by late thepsian Heath Ledger for Modest Mouse‘s song “King Rat” is set to premiere on Myspace Music tomorrow (August 4th).
The animated video’s debut coincides with the release of the new Modest Mouse rarities compilation, No One’s First and You’re Next.
Ledger formed the video’s thematic thread as way to cultivate awareness of the plight of whales illegally hunted for commerical gain off the coast of his native Australia. The video remained unfinished at the time of Ledger’s death in January 2008, but video company The Masses (Ledger was a partner) finished it in his honor. Terry Gilliam—who worked with Ledger on the still-delayed The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus—animated part of the clip.
Proceeds from downloads of the video on US iTunes during the first month of its release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a non-profit organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of ocean wildlife in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
