Huey Lewis & The News Announce New Album, Share New Song “While We’re Young”

Huey Lewis & The News have announced a new album, Weather, and shared a new song from it, album opener “While We’re Young.” Weather will be the band’s first album of original music in almost 19 years. The album includes “Her Love Is Killin’ Me,” a new song they shared back in September. Weather is due out February 14, 2020 via BMG. Huey Lewis & The News self-produced the album, recording it at their own Troutfarm Studio in Marin County, CA. Longtime collaborator Bob Clearmountain mixed the album.
The band’s last album was 2010’s Soulsville, an album where they covered the music and artists of Stax Records. Their last album of originals was 2001’s Plan B. And Huey Lewis & The News’ last original song prior to “Her Love Is Killing Me” was “Pineapple Express,” the theme song to the 2008 movie of the same name, commissioned at the request of the film’s star/co-writer Seth Rogen. In 2018 frontman Huey Lewis revealed he was suffering from hearing loss as a result of Ménière’s disease, which meant he had to cease performing live. The songs on the new album were recorded before his Ménière’s diagnosis.
Lewis had this to say about the album in a press release: “You’ve got to look on the bright side and stay creative. Even if I never sing again, things could always be worse. After all, I’m deaf, not dead.
Lewis also had this to say in a previous press release: “We were in no hurry with these songs. The more we road-tested them the tighter they got, and I think we ended up with some of our best work.”

What an emotional roller coaster! I was excited to see that Huey was making music again but then crushed to learn that he is going deaf! What a heartbreak it must be for him to have the sound of music taken away!
