Julianna Barwick has announced a new album and shared a video for its first single. Will is due out May 6 via Dead Oceans. Below is the video for “Nebula.” She’s also announced some tour dates, which are below as well as the cover art and tracklist.
Derrick Belcham directed the atmospheric “Nebula” video. Barwick recorded the album all over the place: a house in upstate New York, the Moog Factory in Asheville, North Carolina, and Lisbon, Portugal. Will includes contributions from Thomas Arsenault (Mas Ysa), Dutch cellist Maarten Vos, and percussionist Jamie Ingalls (Chairlift, Tanlines, Beverly).
“While making this record, there were moments of isolation and dark currents,” Barwick says in a press release. “I like exploring that, and I love when I come across songs that sound scary or ominous. I’ve always been curious about what goes into making a song that way.”
