As reported by NME, the Mercury Prize-winning Klaxons have announced a new single. While the band still hasn’t released a follow up to their 2007 debut Myths of the Near Future, they—along with notable artists such as Grinderman, Mogwai, Iggy Pop, Spiritualized, Julian Cope, Vincent Gallo and Liars—are set to contribute to a series of releases honoring Suicide frontman Alan Vega’s 70th birthday. Previous participants of the Suicide covers project include The Horrors, Bruce Springsteen, Primal Scream, Peaches, and Lydia Lunch.
Said Vega of the project, “I’m knocked out by these new versions, they just keep on coming and coming and they’re like whole new worlds to me… so completely different… and some of these new upcoming bands, man, they’ve really got into it. It’s really great.”
Klaxons’ contribution, a cover of Suicide’s “Sweetheart” will be available October 1st as a download and 10-inch vinyl single. The record version will also include Vega’s “Speedway” and No Bra covering “Super Subway Comedian.”
