Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn has created Dr Dee: An English Opera in collaboration with director Rufus Norris. Check out the new song from the opera, “The Reigning Queen.”
Dr Dee will premiere at the Manchester International Festival, July 1-9. The opera is based on scientist John Dee, who was a consultant to Queen Elizabeth I and was particularly interested in immortality, mathematics, astrology, and magic. In an online Q&A with Gorillaz fans, Albarn described the opera as a “requimedy.” Check out “The Reigning Queen,” as well as the trailer for Dr Dee below.
