Welsh indie popsters Los Campesinos! Have recently been recording their third album in suburban Connecticut with producer John Goodmanson at the Carriage House, the same studio where Pixies recorded Doolittle. “[We’re] experimenting with different sounds, a bit of electronics, extra instrumentation from people outside the band, which is really exciting,” said drummer Ollie in a recent interview with Under the Radar. Ollie said it was premature to reveal who some of those special guests might be, adding only that “there will be people on it that will be noticeable.” But violinist Harriet did have more to say about the new electronic influence on the band. “Tom’s got very into glitch kind of ideas,” she said. “He loves the first Efterklang record, which has got lots and lot of weird noises and stuff. So, he’s really into that. And, that’s something that we never touched upon in the first two records.”

Los Campesinos! took a break from recording for a U.S. tour that included a stop at Coachella. The band’s as-yet-untitled third album is due out sometime in early 2010 on the Toronto-based label Arts & Crafts, which is partly owned and run by members of Broken Social Scene. When asked if anyone from that Canadian collective had given Los Campesinos! any advice, Harriet responded: “We saw [Broken Social Scene’s] Kevin Drew in Toronto. He was really nice to come out and have dinner with us. He was just giving us advice like, ‘Eat healthy.’ Yeah, he told us that people in bands age very badly so you have to take care of yourself when you’re young, which is always good. Just generally, he seemed very positive.”
