The end is here for Majical Cloudz, the duo (Devon Welsh and Matt Otto) have announced via a post on their Tumblr account that they are breaking up. The band will play one final show, on March 11 at La Sala Rossa in their hometown of Montreal, performing an extra long set with no opening act.

Welsh initially formed the band with Matthew E. Duffy and they released their self-titled debut cassette in 2010 and II in 2011, after which Duffy was replaced by Otto. The Welsh and Otto incarnation then released 2013’s Impersonator and 2015’s Are You Alone?.

Welsh wrote on Tumblr under the heading “Greener pastures” announcing their split: “Over the last few months Matt and I decided that Are You Alone? would be the last Majical Cloudz record, and that after doing some touring we would be moving on to other projects and adventures.”

“The band was an opportunity for us to grow into the kinds of people and the kinds of artists we wanted to become,” Welsh later added. “We both feel it to be the completion of something very positive.”

Welsh also promises he’ll be releasing some solo material under his own name. “I’m working on things right now that I’m excited about and that I’ll be releasing online throughout the year and probably playing a bit live here and there.”

Otto, meanwhile, has a new project, The Dahila, that Welsh says he will soon be releasing music under. “At the moment, he’s composing a film soundtrack and producing a couple of records which you’ll be hearing about in the next few months!”
