London art-punk six-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw have announced their debut album, Cannonball, due August 7 via Fiction (The Cure, St. Vincent, The Horrors). Alongside the announcement, they share a new single “Nosedive,” which you can listen to and watch below.
Recorded at RAK Studios with producers Seth Evans (Geordie Greep) and Margo Broom (Fat White Family, Big Joanie), the track is a synth-led, near six-minute piece that also sees Evans and Broom reunited with the band following their collaboration on BBC 6 Music playlisted singles “Adam and Steve” and album opener “Only Girl.” Lead vocalist Emmie-Mae, one of three members sharing vocal duties across the record, explains the song’s concept:
“It’s a song about longing for both comfort and freedom simultaneously in a relationship through the metaphor of being an injured bird needing shelter. We turned it into a danceable upbeat track, which made the tone shift throughout the song as though you find a way to pick yourself up and fly away.”
Formed at 16 in a converted vicarage, the band had a breakthrough 2025, selling out London’s Scala and completing two UK headline tours. They also recorded live sessions for KEXP and BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, and made their debut at SXSW in Austin. European dates preceded this week’s announcement.
Cannonball features 11 tracks and will be available on eco-mix black vinyl, a limited edition berry-colored LP with signed insert, and a Rough Trade exclusive blue and clear splatter LP with a bonus 7-inch. A UK and Ireland headline tour follows in September and October.
