Matt Berninger of The National previously teamed up with Stephan Altman for the song “All I Want” for American Chaos, a documentary on the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Now they have shared a new version of the song that features Julien Baker. A fan video of the trio performing the song live previously surfaced, but now the studio version has been released as part of the 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood series. It is the first release in Vol. 2 of the series and features on the B-side Hanif Abdurraqib performing his poem “Defiance, Ohio is the Name of a Band.” Listen to both tracks below.
The single’s artwork is a watercolor and sumi ink painting by Emma Kohlmann titled “Crimson Sun, Blue Heart.” Check it out below.
Berninger had this to say in a press release: “7-inches for Planned Parenthood is essentially an independently run record label devoted entirely to protecting sexual and reproductive rights. We’re excited to continue our support of Planned Parenthood with this new release, and to kick off Volume 2 of our series. We’d especially like to thank Julien Baker, Stephan Altman, Hanif Abdurraqib, and Emma Kohlmann for their contributions to this single.”
Dr. Leana Wen, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America had this to say: “We’re incredibly grateful to have the support of so many artists and entertainers, many of whom have themselves been patients at Planned Parenthood, just like one in five women in America. Planned Parenthood has provided quality health care and education for over 100 years, including cancer screenings, well-women visits and the full range of reproductive care - including birth control and abortion. Planned Parenthood has stood defiantly in the face of opposition for a century, along with our partners, and we’re not backing down now.”
