Matthew Herbert Announces Details of New Album Chronicling Pig’s Life
One Pig Already Drawing Fire from Animal Activists
Jul 05, 2011 Matthew Herbert
British electronic and sometime protest pop musician Matthew Herbert has announced the details of his forthcoming album One Pig, due October 11 via his label Accidental Records. The album has garnered attention from its interesting creation, consisting entirely of recordings from a pig’s entire life cycle. As described in a press release, “One Pig is made from recordings taken during the birth, life, butchery, and consumption of a single farm animal, reared for meat at a farm in England.” This album has created much controversy, mostly stemming from animal rights’ activist groups (including PETA) who did not understand Herbert’s intention. Herbert will perform the album in full in September at London’s Royal Opera House as part of the Just Tell the Truth festival, which is being put on by film director/composer Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas).
