McAlmont & Butler to Release 20th Anniversary Reissue of Their Debut Album
The Sound of McAlmont & Butler: 20 Year Deluxe Remaster Due Out September 25
Aug 06, 2015 McAlmont & Butler
Attention Britpop fans: McAlmont & Butler have announced a 20th anniversary reissue of their 1995 debut album, The Sound of McAlmont & Butler. The duo of guitarist Bernard Butler and vocalist David McAlmont came together in 1994 after Butler left Suede during the recording of that band’s second album, Dog Man Star. The songs on The Sound of McAlmont & Butler were originally released as singles and B-sides (with the exception of “The Right Thing”) and were compiled as an album and released after McAlmont & Butler broke up.
The duo reformed for the 2002 album Bring It Back and the 2006 single “Speed,” but then went on hiatus again, focusing on solo careers. They reunited again in 2014 for two charity shows and have a short U.K. tour lined up for November.
The Sound of McAlmont & Butler: 20 Year Deluxe Remaster includes a version of the album remastered by Butler from the original tapes. It also includes a 15-track bonus CD featuring “singles, demos, instrumentals, BBC radio sessions, and a new 2015 radio mix of ‘What’s The Excuse This Time?’ by Bernard Butler.” Also included is a DVD that features the videos for “Yes” and “You Do” and the band’s appearances on Top of the Pops and Later… with Jools Holland, along with an hour-long film shot in June 2015 featuring the duo discussing the album and performing three songs acoustically in a friend’s living room. The album is also available on 180 gram vinyl, “along with an exclusive four track 12” single, all presented in a 12” x 12” 32 page book which includes archive photos and notes.”
