Mike Krol is releasing a new album, Power Chords, on January 25, 2019 via Merge. Previously he shared its first single, “Little Drama.” Now he has shared another song from the album, “I Wonder,” which features the guest vocals of Allison Crutchfield (of Swearin’ and her solo work). Listen to it below, followed by his upcoming tour dates.

Krol had this to say about the song in a press release: “‘I Wonder’ was an attempt to write an apologetic breakup song, rather than the ‘It’s all your fault’ route I normally take. I wanted to write something that was more mature in approach following a mutual breakup, or one that maybe stung at the time but years later you can admit it was for the best and wish that person well.”

Power Chords is the follow-up to 2015’s Turkey. After that album and tour, a previous press release said “Krol found himself in the midst of a full-blown existential crisis. He’d invested everything to create the rock-and-roll life he’d always wanted, but he wasn’t sure the life wanted him back.”

Power Chords was recorded over a two-year period in three different places (Nashville, Los Angeles, and Wisconsin). Mike McCarthy produced the majority of the album, recording it at the same studio where Neil Young recorded Harvest.
