Mike Krol Shares Video for New Song “What’s the Rhythm?”
Power Chords Due Out January 25 via Merge
Jan 16, 2019 Mike Krol
Mike Krol is releasing a new album, Power Chords, on January 25 via Merge. Now he has shared another song from the album, “What’s the Rhythm?,” via a video for the track. Sam Macon directed the video. Watch it below, followed by Krol’s upcoming tour dates.
Macon had this to say about the video in a press release: “A killer song. A great performer. I wanted these elements to come together to create a pure extension of the song itself. We wanted to take things back to a more straightforward and, in all honesty, punk approach.”
Previously Krol shared Power Chords’ first single, “Little Drama.” Then he shared another song from the album, “I Wonder,” which featured the guest vocals of Allison Crutchfield (of Swearin’ and her solo work).
Power Chords is the follow-up to 2015’s Turkey. After that album and tour, a previous press release said “Krol found himself in the midst of a full-blown existential crisis. He’d invested everything to create the rock-and-roll life he’d always wanted, but he wasn’t sure the life wanted him back.”
Power Chords was recorded over a two-year period in three different places (Nashville, Los Angeles, and Wisconsin). Mike McCarthy produced the majority of the album, recording it at the same studio where Neil Young recorded Harvest.
