Modest Mouse have announced a new album, An Eraser and a Maze, and shared a new song from it, “Picking Dragon’s Pockets.” They’ve also announced some new tour dates. An Eraser and a Maze is due out June 5 via Glacial Pace/Virgin Music Group. Below, check out the new single, followed by the album details and the tour dates.

An Eraser and a Maze follows 2021’s The Golden Casket and includes “Look How Far…,” which was the band’s first new single in five years and shared in March. It was one of our Songs of the Week.

Frontman Isaac Brock produced An Eraser and a Maze, with additional production by Jackknife Lee (U2, The Killers), Suzy Shinn (Weezer), and Justin Raisen (Charli xcx, Kim Gordon, Lil Yachty). Brock began working on the album soon after The Golden Casket and initially considered releasing six of its songs as an EP or under his Ugly Casanova side-project.

Brock had this to say about the album in a press release: “For this one, I turned off my filter and just let it all happen. Even though every goddamn musician says that when they put out a record. I mean, go ahead and listen to the three-minute mark of any interview between a musician and Terry Gross…

“Thoughts, emotions, feelings, all that stuff…you’re like the soup, and it’s not always easy to pick out the ingredients. I don’t dwell on things much. I don’t grieve much. I’m not sure I’m a person. I feel like I should have more feelings than I do. But then, you know, I’ll sing stuff. And I’m like, ‘Oh, there it is. Oh—it’s in there.’”
