Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (aka former Oasis guitarist/singer/songwriter Noel Gallagher) is releasing a new EP, Blue Moon Rising, on March 6, 2020 via Sour Mash/Caroline. Previously he shared its first single, “Wandering Star,” and now the song has a video that features a shoplifting Santa Claus (or Father Christmas, since it takes place in England). Dan Cadan and Jonathan Mowatt directed the video, which is a bit more nuanced than we’ve described, and it stars real life married actors Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters. Watch it below.

Cadan had this to say about the video in its YouTube description: “This isn’t an anti-Christmas video, quite the opposite. We wanted to highlight the plight that can affect people, especially around Christmas. The pressures from commercial bombardment and a consumerist society, for a single-parent who will stop at nothing to ensure their kids feel the magic that so many take for granted. Stevie G is my muse and this is our third collaboration, my second with his incredibly talented wife Hannah Walters and they brought more to this than we could have dreamed - which is part of the package when working with these two actors. Their performances bring further to life Noel’s brilliant music and lyrics and we hope this fills you with Christmas cheer, and strikes chord enough for you to raise a glass to those less fortunate but equally as deserving.”

Gallagher jokingly boasted about the song in a previous press release: “It was written in Abbey Road last November on the same day I wrote ‘Black Star Dancing.’ It’s that good, it sounds like it took 5.4 people to come up with it. It’s already a live standard and we haven’t even played it yet.”

Blue Moon Rising is Gallagher’s third EP this year. In June he released Black Star Dancing, which was followed in September by This Is the Place.

Previously Gallagher shared Black Star Dancing‘s title track, “Black Star Dancing.” Then he shared another song from it, “Rattling Rose,” via a lyric video. Plus there was a lyric video for “Sail On.” Then he shared This Is the Place‘s first single, title track “This Is the Place.” That was followed by the EP’s “A Dream Is All I Need to Get By.”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ last album, Who Built the Moon?, came out back in 2017 via Sour Mash/Caroline.
