Oldsoul Shares New Single “Locate”

Listen to the Track Below, Out Now via Counter Intutive

Jul 16, 2025

Boston, Massachusetts-based band Oldsoul returned last month with “Told You So,” their first taste of new music since 2023’s Education on Earth. The latter record followed the band’s 2018 debut, Coy, and their 2020 album, You Were Overwhelmed. Their latest efforts see the band continuing to toy with their scrappy and melodic blend of DIY punk and emo, delivering a track that bursts with chugging riffs and sharp vocal performances delivered in a soaring rush of melodies. Today, the band are back with another new track, “Locate,” out everywhere now.

“Locate” finds a more offbeat and textured angle on Oldsoul’s sound, layering intricate guitar work and sturdy grooves underneath Jess Hall’s bright vocal tones. Where Hall sounds clear and crystalline, the band conjures a messy tangle of contrasts, never letting the melodies completely settle or resolve. In a similar vein, the band descends into a twisting guitar solo mid-way through the track before piling on the distortion for a massive, cathartic finish.

The band says of the track, “‘Locate’ is essentially about how uncertain the future can be, and the anxiety felt trying to figure out how you’re going to get there/reach self-fulfillment. We love when people draw their own meaning from our music, though.

We had a lot of fun experimenting with weird textures on this one. We think they add to the vibe of ‘how did i get here and where am i going to end up?’ Also, one of the first few times [guitarist Tom Stevens] got to show off his newly found pedal steel guitar skills. Very cool.”
