Panda Bear
Panda Bear (aka Noah Lennox of Animal Collective) released a new album, Buoys, back in February via Domino. Now he has shared a brand new song, “playing the long game,” via a video for the track. Lennox collaborated with producer Rusty Santos on the song and Fernanda Pereira directed the video. Check it out below.
A press release had this to say about the song: “‘Playing the long game” is a standalone single that continues the collaboration between Lennox and producer Rusty Santos and their ongoing interest in contemporary music production techniques: the track retains a deep layer of experimentation coursing through hyper-modern production and an undercurrent of speaker-limit-pushing sub-bass low-end.”
Lennox had this to say: “We had a good time making this video across the river. Thanks to everyone involved to make it happen. The song is about a brief series of thoughts I had one morning about who I am, what I’m doing, and where I’m going. Hope you enjoy it and hope all’s well.”

Previously Panda Bear shared Buoys’ first single, “Dolphin” (which was one of our Songs of the Week), as well as a trailer for the album. Then he shared another song from Buoys, “Token,” via a video for the song directed by, and starring, fellow musician Dean Blunt. Then he shared a video for the album’s title track, “Buoys.”
The album is the follow-up to 2015’s Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper and 2018’s A Day With the Homies EP. Buoys was recorded in Lennox’s adopted home of Lisbon, Portugal. Rusty Santos co-produced and co-mixed the album with Lennox and two last worked together on Panda Bear’s acclaimed 2007 album Person Pitch.
