In reaction to March events, where three members of punk activist band Pussy Riot were taken into custody for criticizing Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a punk prayer in a church in Moscow, performer Peaches has started a campaign to show support for these women. The Pussy Riot members will be sentenced this Friday, August 17. A Free Pussy Riot! Petition can be signed online here, and the petition along with a demonstration will be presented on Friday morning in front of the Berlin Russian Embassy.

Peaches stated in a press release:

“As a musician who has spoken out against political figures, I am deeply troubled that the Russian government is punishing its citizens for voicing their opinions through music. Music is an essential tool for voicing opinions about everything from gender to oppression. To outlaw the free expression of these ideas is to embrace tyranny. Letting artists speak is the hallmark of a free society. I’ve criticized world leaders in my music before, and I am dismayed that the artists expressing their opinions in Russia today are being harassed by their government. I am appalled that the Russian government is so blatantly abusing its power and punishing citizens for speaking their minds.”

Other musicians who have lent support and made appearances in the video include: The Hives, Marshall Crenshaw, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Bonaparte, Margaret Cho, Dave Hill, Kate Nash, JD Samson (Le Tigre, Men), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Bun E Carlos (Cheap Trick), Lykke Li, Coco Morier, Miike Snow, Peter Bjorn & John, Deichkind, Scream Club, Roxy Cottontail, Light Asylum, and The Knife.

Mr. Gorbachev had about 20 years ago a large proportion that we East Germans after 40 years of dictatorship can live free again. The same impulse he gave to his country.

Unfortunately, it’s that time again, that corrupt Russian politicians and Russian church leaders (Putin and his baggage) their “power” to abuse to condemn dissidents and play them as heavy criminals just because they have raised for 30 seconds her opinion to the existing system.
Why the Russian Orthodox Church preaches water and drinks even champagne?
And why are they distributed in their houses cheap little biscuits and slurping oysters and throws himself around with the best caviar?
That would be Mr. Gorbachev not even been served in his wildest dreams.

Putin and the Russian government are all cowards and have fear that their power is waning. An upheaval in Russia, the Russian government can no longer stop anyway.

Against the conviction of the three “angels against Wladimir” I object to the sharpest of all and would like to join the movement “Free Pussy Riot” (Free for Pussy Riot), and I call for the immediate release of the three band members!!

Yet a little message to Putin:

YOU SHALL NOT HEAVY CRIMINAL WILL!
YOU HAVE SHOWN NO POWER!
YOU HAVE SHOWN AFRAID!
YOU HAVE TO YOU AND YOUR REGIEM CLOWN IN THE WORLD MADE!
YOU HAVE MADE YOU RIDICULOUS!

PUTIN HEROS YOU FOR FREEDOM AND CREATED FOR ETERNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And so does Putin now fear in my pants and sends innocent young mothers prison camps!

Дружба и свобода для России!
