Penny and Sparrow Share New Single “Cheers To Good Friends”
New Album Lefty Due Out on January 31st

Indie folk pop duo Penny and Sparrow are set to return next year with their new album, Lefty, out on January 31st. The record follows their 2022 album, Olly Olly, and sees them diverting down a series of stylistic rabbit holes, burnishing their folk vocal harmonies with pop production, country guitars, wistful balladry, and more. This year the band have already shared a series of new singles from the record, “Mattering Ram,” “Ketamine” (feat. Tobe Nwigwe), and “Country,” and today they’re back with another new track, “Cheers To Good Friends.”
Each of the album’s singles have gone in very different directions, and “Cheers To Good Friends” is no exception. The band strips their sound back to their barest essentials, offering a soft and lilting ballad guided by delicate vocal harmonies and sparse acoustic chords. The duo delivers their vocals in aching falsettos that bring to mind indie touchstones like Bon Iver and Hovvdy, all while the track subtly fills out with arpeggiated synths and additional swells of guitar. The results are beautiful and wistful, filling out the track with gorgeous harmonies without breaking it’s intimate veneer.
The band says of the track, “‘Cheers to Good Friends’ processes through love and lust and how messy it can get to blur what somebody means to you.”
