Premiere: Coastgaard – “Landmines”

Devil on the Balcony due out Feb 26 on eOne Music

Jan 21, 2016 Coastgaard

Today, we’re premiering “Landmines,” the latest single from Coastgaard’s forthcoming Devil on the Balcony LP. Dripping with hooks and sun-glazed atmosphere, the track is immediately reminiscent of the compact catchiness and oversaturated glee of mid-‘60s psych-pop (with emphasis on the pop half of that equation). Providing some background info on the song, lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Miller had this to say:

““Landmines” is the first song we wrote for Devil On The Balcony, and “A Well Adjusted Man” was written right after we finished “Landmines.” And it’s total coincidence both songs are the first we’ve released from this record. I think all of us in Coastgaard have an appreciation for an efficient, whimsical pop song and we probably had that in mind when writing “Landmines.” It kind of has this California sound to it and to me it’s like a bridge between our first album and the new one; while it still has a bit of a beachy warm sound to it, it’s a little thicker and bassier like some of the songs on Devil. Lyrically it’s a little playful and I’m really just poking fun at myself for being oversensitive at times in situations that are my own creation.”
