Next month, LA-based indie rock quartet Dear Boy are set to share their forthcoming sophomore record, Celebrator, their first release since their 2022 debut, Forever Sometimes. While the band are currently rising through LA’s indie underground, they got their start on the other side of the Atlantic, with lead vocalist Ben Grey and drummer Keith Cooper forming the band while they were living in London.

Since returning to LA, Grey and Cooper joined up with guitarist Austin Hayman and bassist Lucy Lawrence, and they have since been honing a nostalgic and melodic style, one indebted to the myriad shades of ‘90s rock. The band draws on college radio staples like the Pixies or R.E.M., shoegaze pioneers like Slowdive, and Britpop touchstones like Pulp and Oasis, refracting all these inspirations through the haze of memory and youthful abandon.

The band have already shared a handful of new tracks this year, including the record’s lead single, “Kelly Green,” and their following single, “After All,” which features their fellow ‘90s rock revivalists, Rocket. Today, Dear Boy are back with their third and final single, “The Address,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“The Address” is a near seamless blend of modern indie signifiers and vintage ‘90s production, opening on an enveloping Madchester drum groove before the rest of the band quickly joins in and colors the propulsive rhythm section with bleary guitar lines. The track thrums with blissed-out energy and billowy melodies, feeling wistful and reflective, but also laced with thoroughly catchy hooks and detailed production. Meanwhile, Grey’s vocals stretch and sigh above the grooves, twinkling synth accents, and indie guitars, bringing the track’s bittersweet undercurrent to the fore as he yearns to find new joy in his life: “I can’t deal with the passing time / How long will it last? / The love I want is on my mind / But how long will it last / It feels good tonight / Just like before / It’s too much to possess”

Dear Boy say of the track, “‘The Address’ is about waiting to fall in love with your own life. Sometimes the good things are all there in front of your face, but you just can’t get them to look back at you.”
