Premiere: Echo Courts – “Set Me Free”

This August, Negative Fun will release In the Garden, a full-length from North Carolina psych-pop band Echo Courts. Ahead of the album, we’re sharing the single “Set Me Free.” With its Day-Glo swirl and giddy hooks, it’s an ideal segue into summer that nods to both Nuggets’ sunnier realms and the lackadaisical cool of vintage Flying Nun records. Connecting through email, singer/songwriter Kelly Fahey provided some context for the track:
“I wrote the song very quickly, which is unusual for me. It happened when we were recording another song. Luc was working on a keyboard part or something so I went into the other room and started playing guitar and wrote it almost immediately. It really set the tone for what the rest of the album would sound like.”
