Alt rock singer/songwriter Frances Lion debuted in 2018 with her EP LION and has shared a handful of new singles in the subsequent years before returning last year with another new track, “Misbehave.” That single was the first taste of her forthcoming EP, simply entitled Frances Lion - EP1. Lion has envisioned the record as the first in an upcoming series of EPs, with the first entry of the series due out on March 21st. Today, she is following the track with another new single, “Castaway,” premiering early with Under the Radar.

“Castaway” is a rumbling rock anthem, building atop a marching guitar line until it ascends to towering heights. The track’s tightly wound opening moments soon give way to cathartic instrumental drama as the spacious mix fills out with synths, keys, and hammering percussion. Yet, even as the instrumentation ebbs and flows, the track continues pushing forward with unwavering rhythmic precision, rendering it with a sense of single-minded determination. That resolute approach is mirrored by the lyrics, which find Lion tackling an uncertain future head-on: “Go on push me in / Watch me sink or swim / Let me be a castaway / I will unravel to something colorful / Where there’s a will, there’s a way / And that’s how we can make it through it.”

Lion says of the track, “I wrote Castaway with my brother, Sam in one of the lockdowns when it really felt like the world was against everyone. It’s about chasing a dream that perhaps sometimes feels impossible but knowing that the only way to achieve it is to take the plunge and keep trying.”
