Premiere: GIUNGLA Shares New Single “Tonight”
New Album Distractions Out November 1st
Sep 06, 2024
For the past few years, Italian musician and producer Emanuela Drei has been crafting a turbulent and digitized style of art pop under the moniker GIUNGLA. After cutting her teeth as a guitarist and sound designer, Drei adopted the moniker in 2016, fusing her penchant for raucous energy and immersive soundscapes into a blend of indie rock, pop, and electronica. She debuted with her 2016 EP, Camo, followed by her 2021 Turbulence EP.
Later this year, she is set to share her first full-length album, Distractions, which she has teased with a pair of new singles, “Limited Edition” and “Distance.” Today, she’s back with another new track, “Tonight,” premiering with Under the Radar.
With “Tonight” Drei offers an impeccably produced dose of experimental soundcraft, carried by clattering percussion, bleary scrawls of guitar, and jagged electronic textures. In contrast, to the track’s synthetic instrumentation, Drei’s vocals are airy and melodic, a crystalline centerpiece surrounded by otherworldly experimental touches. However, Drei’s production overtakes the vocals as the track winds toward its end, bathing them in digital acid until the track fades into a haze of noisy textures.
Speaking about the song, GIUNGLA says, “‘Tonight’ was one of the first songs that I wrote for this record and that shaped the vision behind it and its title Distractions. It’s a sort of non-love song written from the perspective of a phone, a one-way dialogue, it’s a song about loneliness. Nowadays there are so many different things trying to tell you what should be important to you, demanding your attention, but sometimes what you really should remind yourself is: what do I really care about?”
Check out the song below. Distractions is out November 1st via Factory Flaws.
