Gold-Bears’ sophomore album Dalliance is out June 3 on Slumberland Records, but thanks to them you’ve already got your weekend listening sorted.

“Dalliance wouldn’t have been possible without the help from several friends and acquaintances, says bandmember Jeremy Underwood. “I’ve compiled a mix of songs by folks who directly contributed to the recording, performing, and releasing of the lp. I’m grateful for everyone’s time and energy in helping us make a record we are immensely proud of.”

Check out their playful entry into our ongoing mixtape series below.

1. Madeline: Dead Moon

Madeline is a friend and fan of Gold-Bears. We’ve played shows together and I had hopes of working with her well before I approached her about singing on the album. She would up contributing vocals to two tracks (“Hey, Sophie” and “I Hope They’re Right”) on Dalliance.

2. Withered Hand: Black Tambourine

Pam has always been an indie pop hero of mine. She played in and song with bands I love, such as Black Tambourine, the Shapiros, the Pines, etc. We met at our merch stall at the Indietracks festival. On the flight home I had the idea of asking her to sing on a Gold-Bears track. It took me months to finally approach her, but when I did she wholeheartedly agreed and totally made “From Tallahassee to Gainesville” go from a mediocre song to a mediocre song with Pam Berry singing on it!

3. Standard Fare: Suitcase

Standard Fare were a criminally underrated indie pop back from the UK. Their singer, Emma Kupa, has one of the most emotive and powerful voices in indie pop. I wrote “Yeah, Tonight” and instantly thought about adding her voice to the song. She obliged, thank god.

4. Places: Graves

Luci is co-owner and operator of The Cottage, a recording studio in East Atlanta Village. We’ve been friends for a long time and he arduously engineered the year or so long process of recording Dalliance. Luci produces and plays in Places with his brother.

5. Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters: Lungs, Dirt and Dreams

Damon is also co-owner of The Cottage. He helped engineer most of the drum tracks on the album and is also an outstanding musician and producer in his own right.

6. Small Reactions: Michael J. Foxworthy

Small Reactions are 4/5 of Gold-Bears. When I heard their debut 7” in 2010, I knew I had to befriend these guys. I didn’t know, however, that they would become my bandmates, best friends, and roommates. There’s something indescribably special about this band and I hope they get the credit they deserve.

7. Velocity Girl: Sorry Again

Another indie pop hero, Archie Moore was a mainstay in the DC indie pop scene in the 90’s. He’s an incredible engineer and mixed “For You” for us.

8. Hello Ocho: Party on a Raincloud

Hello Ocho is a band of gypsy punks from Atlanta. Clinton (Small Reactions/Gold-Bears) plays bass with them. They are incredible live and their songs are quite infectious.

9. My Teenage Stride: Money Problems

Jed played a 12-string guitar solo on “From Tallahassee to Gainesville”. He’s an old indie pop friend, former roommate of one of my best friends, and incredibly talented musician. He also puts up with my jokes, which is a plus.

10. Hard Left: What’s That Sound?

Mike Schulman is the one and only employee of Slumberland Records. He doesn’t need an introduction; he’s the punkest guy I know, as evidence by his new project with Donna and Tim from Lunchbox and Stew Boyracer. Ask a punk!

11. Mahogany: The View From the People Wall

Jeremy used to run the Civil Defense, a killer recording studio in Brooklyn, before Sandy decided to destroy it. He’s worked on amazing records by Meneguar, Holopaw, Vivian Girls, and Frankie Rose. He’s also a good friend and amazingly nice person. I approached him about mixing (and finally) mastering Dalliance. He worked tirelessly until we got the sounds we wanted and we couldn’t be happier.
