UK alt pop singer/songwriter Isaac Stuart debuted in 2023 with his first EP, Skyline, and returned earlier this year his latest single, “bloom (when the rain falls),” a plaintive and swirling piano pop ballad. That track serves as the first taste of Isaacs forthcoming EP, Take Your Time, due out later this year. For his latest effort, Isaacs paired with producer Matt Hales (Olivia Dean, Lianne La Havas), expanding his introspective balladry with a spacious and glossy sheen. Today, Stuart is sharing another new track, “Over and Over (and Over) Again,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Over and Over (and Over) Again” takes Stuart’s penchant for heart-on-his-sleeve melodicism and magnifies it. The track steadily builds into a surging pop sing-along, launching Stuart’s piano tuneful compositions skyward with starry bursts of strings and drums. The heartfelt, hook-filled chorus acts as the track’s center point, one that Stuart returns to over and over (and over) again, each time delivering it with utter plaintive sincerity. He only pulls back in the song’s final moments. As the strings fall away, Stuart is left accompanied only by his piano, leaving the track on a wistful and slightly melancholic note.

Stuart says of the track, “‘Over & Over’ is a song about the coming of age desire for a fleeting one-night fling to turn into something bigger. The ‘what if’? The bit in the film where the guy runs after the girl when he realises he’s made a mistake. I wanted it to be romantic but have a hint of sadness and longing about it (a bit like me lol).

I actually wrote the song in Abbey Road Studios of all places which was a very surreal but naturally unforgettable experience. You could feel the history in the walls - it was very inspiring.”
