Kinkajous is a group of London-based jazz and electronic experimentalists, led by drummer and producer Benoît Parmentier and saxophonist Adrien Cau. The pair debuted with their 2019 album, Hidden Lines, and followed with their 2021 record, Being Waves. Later this fall, they’re set to return with their forthcoming third full-length record, Nothing Will Disappear. The record sees them leaning into their electronic influences and elevating them to a cinematic scale, coloring the tracks with vibrant, dazzling swells of strings, sax, and synths.

“With our previous record being quite dark and introspective, we wanted to escape into a different space with this music,” explains Parmentier. “We wanted it to be more colourful, more driven, whilst pushing towards the edges of fragility and vulnerability.”

Nothing Will Disappear is out on October 18th via Running Circle. Ahead of the release, the band have shared two early singles, “In the Void of All Things” and “Heliosphere.” Today, they’re back with another new track, “Shifting Sands,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Shifting Sands” is a fittingly restless composition, moving with a fluid non-linear progression. It begins as a subtle ambient piece, with an ascending wall of strings, synths, droning bass tones, and understated percussion, only to later shift into a dreamy saxophone performance shaded in hints of electronic distortion. The track then blooms into a spacious sprawl of pinging synth melodies and abstract ambient tones. It is the sort of track that pulls you into it, allowing you to lose yourself within its otherworldly, maze-like soundscape.

The band explains, “‘Shifting Sands’ has a free-flowing structure, evolving naturally without constraints. This approach allowed a raw emotional depth to surface, creating both uplifting and somewhat sinking sensations. There’s a vast amount of space within the track, allowing production details and orchestration subtleties to shine.”
