Premiere: Landshapes - “Submarine” Video
Plus North American Tour Dates
Sep 08, 2015 Landshapes
London’s Landshapes tend to defy genre. Their full-length Heyoon, which was released a few months back, fluidly moves from spiky indie rock to woozy psychedelia. The non-album track “Submarine” speaks to Landshapes’ more refined side, but like so much of their output, it also serves as a showcase for the band’s faultless harmonies.
Scroll down to check out the video for “Submarine.” Additionally, Landshapes will be heading to North America this October, and their trek will include a couple of CMJ performances. Tour dates can also be found below.
Here’s what the band had to say about the song and clip:
“Submarine takes it’s name in part from the morse code/sonar ping sounding
guitar and uke noises at the beginning, and the 5/4 tempo, introduced by
Dan after the initial jam gives it the feeling of water: the lurching back
and forth, like waves and submergence. Lyrically it’s about the difficulty
of separating from someone when the emotional power of their music still
has a grip on you.
With the video it was nice to make something ourselves, set in the same
location where a lot of the album was written in Cornwall. It felt good
to incorporate the sea, the dramatic coastline and the woods in the
surrounding area that hold a lot of resonance for us as a band. And of
course finding a miniature Heloise was too good an opportunity to miss!”
