As evidenced by the recent single “Out Is In,” Berlin/London-based duo Lea Porcelain excels at summoning moody, sweeping whirlwinds of sound that split the difference between krautrock’s dreamier aspects and the darker corridors of synth-pop. The pair has now reimagined “Snowstorm,” a college rock classic from one of the genre’s great guitar bands, and the results are no less bewitching.
Connecting with us through email, Lea Porcelain provided some context on why they decided to record a version of the track from Galaxie 500’s On Fire, which will be featured on the forthcoming EP Out Is In:
“As we had our first airplay on BBC Radio 6 last year, the production team of BBC 6 asked us to make a cover of a song with a coming home feeling. Seeing the family and friends, and just entering the house of the parents, we searched for some hours until a friend sent us a song from Galaxie 500. We heard the song and went to the studio right away, we made our cover version in 35 minutes. We instantly felt the vibe after some hours driving through Berlin while listening to our version of the song. A few months later we were planning the EP and showed the cover to our manager. He was touched by it and we decided to put it on this EP. It was our first cover and we really love the process of interpreting a great song through our ways of producing and writing.”
