Premiere: Local Nomad Shares New Single “Tinderella” Featuring Babe Club

After playing in a series of indie rock outfits through the 2000s (including As Tall As Lions, Straylight Run, and I Am The Avalanche), indie singer/songwriter Michael Desmond debuted in 2020 under his solo moniker Local Nomad. He released his self-titled EP that year, followed by his 2022 follow-up, the Stranger in My Hometown EP, and this year he has been gearing up towards the release of his upcoming LP, Local Nomad & The Soft Rock Orchestra. The record finds Desmond evoking the synthy and cinematic side of 2000s indie pop, equal parts sleek, melodic, and relatable.

This year, Desmond has shared the record’s lead single, “I Can’t Get High Anymore,” and last month he shared a new track, “Get Along.” Today, Local Nomad is back with another new single, “Tinderella,” featuring Babe Club, premiering with Under the Radar.

“Tinderella” plays on the strange and awkward landscape of modern dating, where the initial excitement often gives way to connections that feel all too fleeting. Desmond sings atop a breezy blend of synths and guitar, occasionally dipping into his falsetto amidst the airy hooks. He confesses, “I’ve been waiting for this moment / Midnight dancing in slow motion / Saw that you swiped right / And it kinda made my night / But I don’t know how to talk to you / My Tinderella.”

Meanwhile, the track is also the first collaboration between Local Nomad and his sister and fellow singer/songwriter, Jenna Desmond of Babe Club. Jenna provides some plaintive harmonies to the track, blending her voice together with Michael’s vocals in an irresistible blissed-out swirl. “After years of writing songs, this is the first time Jenna and I have collaborated/released a track together,” Michael says. “It’s really special to share this moment with her.”
