Mariam The Believer is the solo moniker of Swedish singer/songwriter Mariam Wallentin. After years playing as one half of the duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Wallentin debuted with her 2013 album, Blood Donation, followed by her 2017 sophomore record, Love Everything. Wallentin’s music finds her crafting a crystalline fusion of jazz, soul, and art pop, recalling the simmering tones of classic jazz songstresses and the glassy, exploratory undercurrent of artists like Kate Bush.

Later this year, Wallentin is set to return with her third full-length album, Breathing Techniques, out October 4th. She has already shared the album’s singles “Tiny Animals” and “Home,” and today she’s back with another new track, “Dreams,” premiering with Under the Radar.

On “Dreams” Wallentin dances through effortless transformations. She initially pairs her twirling vocal acrobatics with shimmering harps and dreamy, droning tones, only for the track to settle into a more resonant space, colored by striking orchestral strings. Wallentin moves between these spaces gracefully, bringing her airy vocal melodies back to Earth as they take on an impassioned fervor: “Dreams is what I’m weeping for you / Dreams is what I want to give to you / Dreams that you can hold forever and ever / Dreams that can come true.”

Wallentin says of the track, “I was searching for a specific state of mind, a floating sound, a rhythm. A simple plea, a drama unfolding without grand gestures, like life itself.”
