Premiere: Mokina Shares New Acoustic Version of Her Track “mirage”

New Acoustic mirage EP is Due Out July 11th

Jul 09, 2025

Earlier this year, Montreal-born indie singer/songwriter Mokina shared her latest EP, mirage, the follow-up to her 2023 EPs swirly and softy. With mirage she evokes a wispy swirl of dream and bedroom pop, setting her delicate vocal melodies against a sunny backdrop of feathery acoustics, beachy vibes, and flickering synth tones. Later this week, she is leaning further into those breezy folk influences with a set of acoustic reimaginings of the mirage EP. She already shared “talia,” an unreleased bonus track from the EP, and today she is previewing the full release with an early listen to the the title track, premiering with Under the Radar.

Mokina’s earlier release of “mirage” is a hazy art folk fantasia, filling the space in the mix with subtly shuffling rhythms and ethereal chamber strings. The acoustic version strips all of the track’s dreamy adornments away, leaving only a breezy folk guitar line and the immaculate siren call of Mokina’s vocals. The reimagined tracks were all recorded in her home studio alongside guitarist Duarte Dias and the results carry that intimacy forward, letting Mokina take up space as the focal point of the track. The results unfurl like an effortles sigh, releasing any tension Mokina may be carrying in a swirl of silky melody and sun-kissed guitar lines.

Mokina says of the track, “As wxmen, we’re taught to carry shame for things that are simply human—desire, detachment, choosing ourselves. These songs are about normalizing those experiences and letting go of that inner guilt. They hold space for that emotional complexity, and say, ‘It’s okay—you’re allowed to feel this.’”

Check out the song below. The acoustic mirage EP is due out on July 11th.
