Los Angeles-based indie rock outfit Nitefire debuted in 2022 with their first EP, [redacted], followed soon after by last year’s sophomore EP, The Great Unwashed. Since then, they’ve returned this year with a handful of new singles, all teasing another collection of fizzy, party-ready indie rock cuts. Their third EP, Ameripop! Is out today, and accompanying the release the band are sharing a new video for one of the record’s highlights, “Love Won’t Tear Me Away,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Love Won’t Tear Me Away” leans into the band’s rowdy side, lurching forward atop a propulsive bassline and space-faring synth textures. The rhythm section anchors the track in a nervy dance punk space, but the band punctuates that wiry energy with jagged bursts of guitar, and sing-songy interludes. Meanwhile, frontman Nico Geyer is in full rockstar mode, channeling the carefully curated cool of the early Aughts garage rock revival. He delivers his vocals in a sardonic deadpan dotted with yelps and howls, managing to sound both manic and aloof until the band tears into the shout-along refrain. It’s a wild garage rock rager and catchy party starter in equal measure.

As the band says, “‘Love Won’t Tear Me Away’ is a song by Nitefire about teenagers doing crazy stuff all the time. It’s also about making music and acting like British guys.”

They continue, saying, “Ameripop! is the third EP from Nitefire. Its lyrical groundwork was threaded from the tribulations of love in Los Angeles. Love for place, love for others, love for self, love for passions. It is an American expression of your dying 20s in a city so divine.”
