Premiere: Pimmer Shares New Single “Garage Band Glory”

New LP I Wish I Could Care is Out on July 25th via Mint400 Records

Boston-based rock band Pimmer released their debut album last year, Halcyon 303, evoking underground rock touchstones like Husker Du and The Replacements alongside hints of starry pop harmony. Later this week, the band are set to return with their sophomore record, I Wish I Could Care, which they have teased with a pair of new singles.

Lead single, “The Doomsday Clock,” leads things off with a burst of nervy power pop, while the band’s latest track, “Things We Did For Fun,” leans into a penchant for wistful nostalgia coated in an alt rock sheen. Today, ahead of the full album release, the band are sharing an early listen to one of the album’s highlights, “Garage Band Glory,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Garage Band Glory” is Pimmer’s entry into the storied canon of rock and roll songs about the greatness of rock and roll. The track bursts with wiry guitar hooks and a careening rhythm section, capturing the titular garage band energy and layering in some rowdy shouted chants along the way. However, the track also carries an undertone of melancholic nostalgia, with vocalist Sanford Schaffer’s vocals lending the band’s wistful melodies a touch of road-worn grit. Schaffer offsets these plaintive elements with his utter sincerity, lending a disarming charm to well-worn sentiments like “Maybe it’s wrong / Maybe it’s right / Rock me away / Into the night.”

Schaffer says of the track, “‘Garage Band Glory’ was written in one day over Christmas last year. It’s a short song with heightened aggression reminiscent of what might have been had The Replacements disbanded and Paul joined Husker Du in 1985…Since the new album includes a bunch of tracks in this realm, it naturally fits right in.”
