Later this week, Nashville-based indie folk singer/songwriter Remi Goode is set to share her debut LP, Things I’ve Said Before, arriving on September 26th. Goode is a classically trained nylon string guitaristーa talent that shines through in the slight and quiet moments in her songsーbut she also brings a sense of scale and wide-eyed filmic wonder to the typically intimate world of folk. Alongside her fellow guitarist, bandmate, and main collaborator, Gabe Lehrer, Goode has spent the past few years steadily crafting the songs on Things I Said Before, shaping a sound that flits between golden-hued Americana, stirring chamber folk, and vintage pop sensibilities.

As Goode describes, the record itself is one that explores contradictions and uncertainty. “As someone who tends to think in black-and-white, I find myself writing about all the gray areas in my life—trying to find clarity in the confusing dynamics and misunderstandings that I need to sort out,” she says. “Things I’ve Said Before is about getting to the truth of where I stand in relation to myself and others. I wrote these songs over many years while I was still figuring out how to feel like a real songwriter, and learning that I loved to write about this type of truth-seeking really helped with that. With this album, I wanted to show that we can find peace in letting go and leaving some things unreconciled.”

Goode has already released “Might Not Be True,” “For the Record,” “Short Circuit,” and “Waltz, No.1” as singles this year, and today she’s back with an early listen to another new track, “Don’t Drive Me Home,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Don’t Drive Me Home” plays with both sides of Goode’s sound, straddling the line between tender folk meditation and effortlessly smooth full-band studio production. The results feel both classical and contemporary. Goode’s finger-picked guitar and jazz-flecked vocal lines dance amidst swells of strings, honeyed vocal harmonies, and blissed-out percussion, with Goode occasionally ceding the spotlight for a moment of lithe full band grooves or a winding and gorgeous guitar solo. These contrasting stylistic threads settle in the track’s final moments, replaced by a glassy and serene coda. Goode’s vocals sigh and sprawl as the strings and guitar steadily unravel, descending into a dreamy fantasia.

Goode explains, “Right before I took the leap to be with the person I was meant to be with, I did a lot of hand-wringing and second-guessing. I wrote ‘Don’t Drive Me Home’ about leaving love on the table, and how we ended our relationship before it even began. I wanted the outro to feel floaty and timeless to represent the regret I felt when my person was driving me home at the end of the night, and I didn’t want to be alone with the decision we’d made.”

Check out the song below. Things I’ve Said Before is out everywhere on September 26th.
